Dear Jeff & Stephanie, My name is Shimon Amit. My wife and I met you at the G3 and enjoyed your lollipops :) We would like to donate towards the purchase of the new pickup, or anything else you may need it for. We will be praying for you for strength, newness of spirit, and especially for long term fruit--so that you will glorify our Lord Jesus through your work and hear from his mouth the most important words you will ever hear - "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." Matt 25:23 There is a joy set before you that is earned by toil, sweat and tears, but "...the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Rom 8:18 Blessings from Israel, The Amits

About Mercy Ministries

Best we can tell it is time to purchase a bigger vehicle as our everyday driver. Of course this comes at a large expense for our ministry and so we are sharing the need with you and asking for your prayers.

In August of 2020 when we purchased our small blue car (Toyota Ractis) it was a safe purchase. We found ourselves suddenly needing a vehicle and good friends were transitioning back to the states and selling their car. We trusted them, knew the car had been well maintained, they were selling it at a reasonable price, and we had a donor offer to cover the cost. This little car has served us well over the last 3+ years and allowed Stephanie to gain confidence driving here (she was terrified and hated driving at first). However, it really isn’t big enough for our needs or great for village life. Because it is so small when we have 3 people in the backseat or our weekly grocery haul it often drags when going over speed bumps, and there are speed bumps everywhere here. The other day we were taking a police officer somewhere and it drug so bad we thought it was going to get stuck on the speed bump.

Since being blessed to purchase the large work truck at the end of 2022 we have known that we really needed to add another truck to the ministry that Stephanie can drive on a regular basis. We need an “everyday truck”, which would be smaller than the work truck and an automatic. Stephanie does a lot of the shopping and errand running and our little car just isn’t great for that, mainly due to size and how low it is to the ground. Having a truck would just make life easier and a bit safer for us.

A couple of weeks ago Stephanie was on the way to town a motorbike ran into the back of the car. She was stopped because the car in front of her had stopped. The motorbike should have had plenty of time to stop as well, however it seems like he wasn’t paying attention. Instead of the driver saying “sorry” he accused Stephanie of stopping without reason. Very quickly Karson and Stephanie were surrounded by angry “men” and there were motorbikes parked directly in front of and behind the car keeping them from moving. Praise God Karson was with her, able to keep his cool, and calm the situation, eventually allowing them to leave. But the story could have been very different and due to the car being so small they were their “hostages” until they gave them permission to leave.

We share the story above to show and share a need we have and not to be dramatic, garner sympathy, or manipulate. We know that a vehicle cannot guarantee our safety, and that the safest place that we can ever be is inside the will of God and we believe that for us Kenya is that. Adding an everyday truck will be a blessing in many different ways and in many different areas of our ministry work here.

As we have been talking about trucks and what would be best for us we have decided that a Toyota Hilux would be our first choice because it is a sturdy truck, has 4 wheel drive, and has a double cab allowing us to have a few passengers, but still carry all the things when we go shopping. We’ve been looking online at prices and they are kind of all over the place, but after talking to a couple of people it looks like we can get one for $21k to $27k. Obviously the more expensive the truck the newer the truck, we are most interested in getting a vehicle that is in great shape and will be dependable.

Thank you for your time, prayers, and support for the work God is doing here. Real change is occurring and God’s Word is being taught on a daily basis. While the days are long and the work is hard we are incredibly blessed to be here.
