About this Cause

We have A LOT of dirty laundry! Probably not something you want to hear from your missionaries 😂. But don’t worry, we just literally have lots dirty laundry. In 2020 we got our first washing machine and then over the next few months added more. Since 2020 life has been so much easier on our caretakers and cleaners because they have not had to HAND WASH all of the laundry for 120+ people. At one point we had 5 working washing machines on campus, but now of those 5 machines only 2 are working-ish. After looking at our options in country we feel like it is best to ship over 4 washing machines from America. After listening to other Mamas who also do lots of laundry we’ve decided to go with an “old school” top loader machine. These Speed Queen machines are about $1,500 a piece, but better than anything we can get here in Kenya and only about $400 more per machine. Another bonus of having heavy duty “basic” machines is that Karson will be able to work on them a lot easier. Currently our machines are HE and digital, they have computer stuff in them (which goes out) making them more difficult to work on. Who even knew a washing machine needed WiFi? Right now several of our cleaning staff and caretakers are having to do a fair amount of handwashing which is a lot of work and very time consuming. Handwashing doesn’t get the clothes as clean, uses a lot of extra water, makes a big mess, takes the clothes forever to dry because they aren't being spun in the washer, and usually soap gets left on the clothes. We need to raise about $6,500 and this total includes the machines and some laundry soap because there will be extra space in the boxes so we might as well fill it up. The quicker that we can get this need met the quicker we can get the machines purchased and on the ocean.
